If you work in law enforcement, security, military contracting, or anywhere in the tactical and body armor space, SHOT Show is the one event you need on your radar for 2027. It is the largest trade show in the firearms and tactical industry — and for companies like Universe Body Armor, it is where relationships get built, products get seen, and the industry moves forward.
Here is everything you need to know right now, while registration is open and space is still available.
What Is SHOT Show?
SHOT Show stands for Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show. It is organized annually by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and has been running since 1979. Over 60,000 industry professionals attend each year — manufacturers, distributors, retailers, law enforcement buyers, government representatives, and media from over 100 countries.
This is not a public gun show. SHOT Show is strictly trade-only. You need to demonstrate a commercial or professional connection to the industry to get in. That means if you are law enforcement, a licensed dealer, a security company, a manufacturer, or a journalist covering the space — you qualify. General public does not.
The show floor covers over 630,000 square feet across the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, with 2,700+ exhibits across firearms, optics, ammunition, tactical gear, body armor, outdoor equipment, and more. It is four days of deals, launches, demos, and the kind of face-to-face conversations that do not happen over email.
SHOT Show 2027 — The Key Dates
- January 17, 2027 — NSSF/HAVA Golf Classic (charity event for disabled veterans)
- January 18, 2027 — Industry Day at the Range, Boulder City, NV. The hands-on pre-show event where manufacturers demo live products. One day only, extremely valuable for buyers evaluating new gear.
- January 19-22, 2027 — Main show floor, Venetian Expo + Caesars Forum, Las Vegas. Hours: 8:30 AM daily.
How to Register
Registration is open now. This is not one of those things to leave until December — badge availability and hotel blocks near the venue go fast, and early registration gets you better rates.
Attendee badge: $50 for NSSF members, $75 for non-members. Grants access to all exhibition halls, live demonstrations, innovation zones, and conference sessions for all four days.
Register directly at shotshow.org — that is the only official registration portal. Do not use third-party sites.
If you are considering exhibiting rather than attending, exhibitor registration is also open now through the same portal. Booth space goes quickly — October is when it starts to fill up. You need to be an NSSF member to exhibit, or join as part of the process.
What to Expect on the Floor
For anyone in the body armor and tactical gear space specifically, SHOT Show 2027 is going to be a particularly relevant year. The NIJ 0101.07 transition is underway — as we covered in our last post — and several manufacturers are expected to use the show to announce products tested or positioned under the new standard. That conversation is going to be happening on the floor in January.
Beyond body armor, the show typically delivers:
- Major product launches from the industry largest brands, most of which are under embargo until show day
- Live fire demonstrations at Industry Day at the Range the day before the main show opens
- NSSF conference sessions covering market trends, regulatory updates, and industry data
- Themed pavilions for defense, law enforcement, hunting, sport shooting, and tactical equipment
- Direct access to suppliers, manufacturers, and buyers you cannot reach any other way
Is It Worth Going?
For law enforcement buyers and security professionals: yes, if you are evaluating equipment for your agency or team. The ability to handle, compare, and ask technical questions about gear side by side — from ballistic plates to carriers to optics — in one place over four days is genuinely hard to replicate any other way.
For vendors and manufacturers: this is where relationships that drive annual contracts get started. If you are in the body armor space and not at SHOT Show, you are not in the room where those conversations happen.
For individual buyers and enthusiasts: this one is not for you — trade only, professional credentials required. Your path is through licensed dealers and manufacturers like Universe Body Armor who attend and bring back what matters.
